Legislative Campaigns

In 2024, CHN members…

  • Worked in coalition to advocate for health through AB-1186 (Hart - Oil

    Well Clean-up), SB-252 (Gonzalez - CalPRS and CalSTRS fossil fuel divestment),

    Proposition 4 (the Climate Bond), ACA-16 (Bryan - Green Amendment), and by

    opposing the (oil lobby’s) ballot referendum on SB-1137 to protect health and safety oil

    well setbacks.

  • CHN-AF organized 10 health professionals to participate in the Polluters Pay Advocacy Day

    as part of a broader coalition calling for a slate of bills to hold climate polluters

    accountable.

  • CHN-AF organized over 50 calls and emails from CHN members to their legislators in support of AB-1866 Leaky Wells Clean-Up.

  • Prop 4 (The Climate Bond): Two letters to the editor published; One video shared on social media; Two mass communications about why Prop 4 matters for health

  • Members participated in Assemblymember Bryan’s Spring press conference in support of

    ACA-16 The Green Amendment.

  • In partnership with SF Bay Physicians for Social Responsibility and California Public

    Interest Research Group (CalPIRG), CHN-AF organized a health community lobby day in

    August in support of a bill that would require all gas stoves sold in California to come

    with a health warning label.

    • With other groups, organized participation of nearly 20 members of the health

      community

    • Circulated a letter in support of gas stove labeling signed by 69 members of the

      health community

In 2023, CHN members…

  • Participated in two broad-based coalitions

  • Published 3 letters to the editor

  • Published 1 op-ed

  • Spoke at 1 press conference

  • Participated in 1 full page ad in the Sacramento Bee

  • Coordinated 17 meetings with state legislators over 8 weeks, with 56 CHN health community members participating

  • Sent 133 individual emails to Governor Newsom

  • Sent individual sign on letters to Governor Newsom (191 signers), Senate Appropriations Chair Portantino (115 signers) and Assembly Appropriations Chair Holden (60 signers)

  • Sent 7 organization letters, including with sign ons from partner organizations.
